Folk B*tch Trio release haunting single “Cathode Ray” and announce their debut album, out July 25 via Jagjaguwar.

Melbourne/Naarm’s Folk B*tch Trio are stepping into the spotlight with the announcement of their debut album Now Would Be A Good Time, out July 25 via Jagjaguwar, and a gripping new single, “Cathode Ray.”

Known for their rich harmonies and brutally honest lyricism, the trio—Gracie Sinclair, Jeanie Pilkington, and Heide Peverelle—capture the internal struggles of early adulthood.

“It expresses a feeling of being trapped in myself,” says Sinclair of “Cathode Ray.” “And wanting to break out of that so violently that I’m literally talking about opening up a body viscerally.”

The song’s wide-open chorus and breathy harmonies are underpinned by a meditative beat, with production that matches the emotional charge. The track follows “The Actor,” described as “acidic and gorgeous” by Beats Per Minute and listed by Rolling Stone as a must-hear release.

The album was recorded to tape in Auckland with Tom Healy and reflects the trio’s eclectic tastes—from Americana to opera to DIY pop. Each song explores complex experiences—dissociation, heartbreak, media overload—with raw insight and generational voice.

With a growing international fanbase and a unique presence that defies folk conventions, Folk B*tch Trio are carving out their own space. Their September Australia and New Zealand headline tour follows a busy season of festival sets and international dates.
