Emily James continues to shape her story with the release of “Underdog,” an emotionally driven single from her upcoming EP Summer Nostalgia, out August 15. The track blends angsty rock production with introspective lyrics to capture a pivotal emotional moment.
“I wanted this song to feel like that explosive point in a relationship when things you’ve been ignoring finally surface,” Emily shares. “This is the turning point of Summer Nostalgia.”
Produced to reflect the tension and instability of a turbulent relationship, “Underdog” follows previous singles “Under the Influence” and “Suburbia,” adding a new layer to the EP’s exploration of growing pains and identity.
Alongside the single, Emily released a music video that visually echoes the song’s lyrical storm. With its crashing guitars and urgent rhythm, “Underdog” invites listeners into the mindset of someone caught between holding on and letting go.
Emily will bring her evolving live set to select cities as she joins Donovan Woods on his West Coast tour this June, including a highlight stop at The Troubadour in LA.
