With “Kelebu,” Rema Brings Back the Pulse of African Dance Music

Rema taps into his past and delivers a powerful dance anthem with “Kelebu.”
Rema makes a bold return with “Kelebu,” a vibrant track that pays homage to the golden age of African dance culture. Backed by production from London, the song balances nostalgia and freshness, echoing the rhythms that shaped his youth.
With the HEIS album hitting its one-year mark, “Kelebu” reintroduces Rema’s audience to the source of his sound—the shared moments of joy and rhythm from school parties and family gatherings.
“Growing up, I didn’t have a phone to create my music taste, my household had different music tastes, I listened to what everybody played. In school parties, we used to dance to a lot of Caribbean and Francophone bounces. We didn’t care about what they were saying because most of them were not even in our local language in Nigeria. They just kept repeating one word with a fantastic instrumental backing it up, and we all danced. Making music now, I’m reliving those moments by expressing it with my art,” shares Rema.
His recent Wireless Festival performance alongside Drake added to his list of global milestones, proving that Rema’s influence stretches far beyond borders. “Kelebu” is more than a song—it’s a shared experience of rhythm, movement, and cultural memory.
