Lexa Gates drops “Latency,” a sultry track with a surreal video, via Capitol Records.

Lexa Gates enters a new phase with the release of “Latency,” a sultry single that captures emotional limbo and digital-age disconnect. Issued through Capitol Records, the track is the result of collaboration with producers Jasper Harris and Aaron Shadrow, whose past work includes major names like Kendrick Lamar and Doja Cat.

Built around a hypnotic sample from Hamilton Bohannon’s “Tell Me You’ll Wait,” the song offers Lexa’s unique combination of vulnerability and poise. Her voice floats above lush instrumentation, anchored by the question: “I got ideas of you, making moves on me, what’s with the latency?”

Lexa describes “Latency” as “a sexy fantasy of a love left on delay. Waiting for a text back, or a move to be made.” She also reflects on its origin, saying, “I got in the studio late night with the GOATS. From New York to LA. Being around all these rich older men sparked a curiosity in me. It’s a tale as old as time.”

Accompanying the track is a stylized visual directed by Ganna Bodgan. The video presents a dreamlike loop where Lexa navigates locations symbolic of attention, longing, and modern romance. The massive bag she carries represents affection and projection—a motif that follows her from city lights to beachside retreats and eventually circles back, reinforcing the idea of unresolved desire.

This follows Lexa’s performance art piece Elite Vessel, where she spent 10 hours inside a transparent box in NYC. That project earned her more than 300 million views online and established her as a force of concept and execution in music and art.
