Mariah Carey Celebrates 30 Years of Christmas Cheer with Vevo’s Footnotes
Mariah Carey revisits the “All I Want For Christmas” magic with Vevo’s Footnotes, marking 30 years of the holiday classic.
Mariah Carey and Vevo are celebrating 30 years of the legendary “All I Want For Christmas Is You” in a new Footnotes episode. The feature takes fans behind the scenes of the “Make My Wish Come True Edition” video, a dazzling tribute to the glamour and joy that defines the holiday season.
Directed by Joseph Kahn, the video draws inspiration from Busby Berkeley’s intricate choreography and Hollywood’s golden era of musicals. Kahn recalls being starstruck by Mariah’s presence on set, while Carey reflects on the challenge of working with the dancers, admitting that dancing is not her strongest suit. The elaborate Busby Berkeley-style sequence required hours of filming with multiple angles to create its breathtaking visuals.
The video’s special cameos add even more festive charm. Mykal-Michelle Harris, who plays a young Mariah, was praised by Carey for her vibrant energy: “She represents little me and all the kids who love Christmas!” Carey’s twins, Monroe and Moroccan, light up the screen with their cheerful dancing, and her dog, Cha Cha, continues the tradition of featuring her pets in her holiday videos. Director Joseph Kahn’s daughter, Josie, also appears as a gift box angel.
“All I Want For Christmas Is You” has remained a holiday staple for three decades, breaking records and spreading joy worldwide. With over 1.5 billion views across its official videos and a Billboard Hot 100 streak spanning five consecutive years, Mariah Carey’s holiday magic shows no signs of slowing down.
