The momentum surrounding artificial intelligence continues to grow, and in Uganda, it is being met with a strong sense of purpose. Graduates of Educating The Children’s Code Queen programme are stepping into this evolving space with clarity, demonstrating how education can transform global trends into local opportunity.

Recent discussions led by Microsoft AI leadership have highlighted the rapid pace at which automation may reshape professional environments. While these insights have sparked widespread attention, the response within the Code Queen community reflects confidence and preparation.

Since its establishment in 2009, Educating The Children has reached more than 6,000 young women across East Africa. The Code Queen programme, launched in 2019, focuses on bridging the gap between traditional education and the demands of the digital workforce. Nearly 1,000 women have graduated, with a significant majority moving into employment or launching their own ventures.

In 2025, the programme expanded its curriculum to include a dedicated AI course. Participants gain experience in prompt engineering, automation workflows, AI-assisted design, strategic thinking, and digital entrepreneurship. This ensures they are equipped to navigate and contribute to the evolving digital economy.

The impact of this addition has been immediate. Applications to Code Queen have doubled, reflecting a growing demand for AI-focused education among young women.

This perspective continues to shape how AI is approached within the programme, highlighting its role as a tool for empowerment, inclusion, and long-term growth.
