Japanese-British artist Hana Kuro debuts her single “Be Romantic,” blending British and Japanese influences. Out February 7.

On February 7th, Japanese-British artist Hana Kuro will release her debut single, “Be Romantic,” via Handcraft Entertainment and Virgin Records. As a multi-hyphenate talent with millions of social media views, Hana combines her diverse background with a fresh take on J-pop, ready to captivate fans worldwide.

“Be Romantic” was co-produced by Michael Africk, a 6X Japan Gold Disc-winning producer, and Zeph Park. The track blends Hana’s distinct voice—rooted in both British and Japanese influences—with Africk’s expertise in J-pop, creating a bold and refreshing sound.

Raised in Southeast London and Yokosuka, Japan, Hana’s musical influences are as diverse as her upbringing. From her father, she discovered electronic music and alternative rock bands like Radiohead and Gorillaz. In her teenage years, she gravitated toward R&B and hip-hop, listening to artists such as Frank Ocean, Tyler, The Creator, and Summer Walker. She also stayed connected to her Japanese roots, embracing the music of artists like Lamp and Naoko Gushima.

Hana explains her creative philosophy: “Everything is always a combination of things that I like. I’m half-Japanese, but I was also brought up in the UK surrounded by Western culture. I’m a very open-minded person, and I try to fuse together different elements. Musically, I’m experimenting and fusing everything together in my own way. I can’t wait to share this song and journey ahead with my fans and followers.”

Producer Michael Africk calls Hana a game-changer for J-pop, saying: “It takes a special artist and the right timing to globalize a music genre. J-Pop has been waiting for Hana. As soon as I met her, heard her sound, felt her energy, and experienced her style, I knew I had found someone very special.”

With “Be Romantic,” Hana Kuro is set to redefine J-pop and take her place on the global stage.
