Lindsay Ell and Nightly Release Emotional New Single “i shouldn’t call you”

Lindsay Ell teams up with Nightly for “i shouldn’t call you,” a heartfelt song about love, loss, and self-discovery, out now via Universal Music Canada.
Award-winning singer-songwriter Lindsay Ell continues to redefine her artistry with the release of “i shouldn’t call you”, a deeply emotional collaboration with Nashville-based indie band Nightly. The single, out now via Universal Music Canada, follows the success of her recent EP love myself, further exploring themes of heartache, healing, and self-worth.
Co-written by Lindsay Ell and Nightly, and co-produced by Ell and Doug Schadt, the song mirrors the inner conflict of moving on from someone who no longer fits in your life. Beginning with sparse instrumentation and Ell’s delicate vocals, the track builds in tempo and intensity, culminating in a soaring guitar solo that marks a turning point from pain to empowerment.
Ell reflects on the personal significance of the song, sharing:
“‘i shouldn’t call you’ is the perfect follow-up to love myself, because when you start to love yourself, you can see what you are worthy of and the things that don’t fit become clearer. I wrote this song to be the soundtrack for the honest struggle of coming to terms with realizing someone doesn’t fit in your life anymore.” – Lindsay Ell
Recently, Lindsay Ell delivered a standout New Year’s Eve performance alongside Shania Twain, further showcasing her renowned guitar skills. As the lead guitarist for Twain’s “Come On Over” Las Vegas residency and tour, and with a full-length album expected later this year, 2025 is shaping up to be another landmark year for Ell.
