“Jellyfish” blends Nigerian textures and synth-punk rage. Obongjayar’s new album “PARADISE NOW” arrives May 30.

Obongjayar has dropped his latest single “Jellyfish,” a politically charged, genre-blending release from his forthcoming second album PARADISE NOW, out May 30 via September Recordings. Created with Carlos O’Connell (Fontaines D.C.) and Kwes Darko, the track is a hard-hitting fusion of synth-punk, drum and bass, and Afro textures.

In an interview with The Observer, Obongjayar described the song as a response to widespread corruption and political cowardice.

“Seeing how governments move, people in power, corporations – [for] whatever monetary reasons you sell yourself,” he explained. Writer Tara Joshi dubbed it “a scathing song about spineless British politicians.”

“Jellyfish” follows previous singles “Sweet Danger,” “Not in Surrender,” and “Just My Luck,” all part of the vibrant sonic mosaic that defines PARADISE NOW. Produced in London and LA with Kwes Darko, Yeti Beats, and Beach Noise, the record explores themes like grief, procrastination, and transcendence over dynamic, string-laced production.

Featuring only one guest—Little Simz—Obongjayar keeps the focus on his own vocal dexterity and storytelling. The two recently collaborated on her single “Flood,” further showcasing their creative chemistry.

This July, Obongjayar will make his first U.S. tour appearances outside of SXSW, with three headline shows including a performance at Newport Folk Festival. In November, he’ll embark on a UK/EU tour, concluding with his biggest London show to date at O2 Kentish Town Forum.
