Skegss release their second single “State of Hawaii,” blending Latin grooves, trumpet, and island escapism.

Byron Bay’s Skegss are adding a tropical twist to their catalog with new single “State of Hawaii,” out now as the second track from their upcoming EP Top Heavy, dropping June 27 via Loma Vista Recordings.

A significant departure from their garage-rock roots, the track introduces bossa nova rhythms, lush harmonies, and even trumpet and congas, adding warmth and color to their sound. The result is a laid-back ode to Hawaii—both a literal paradise and a metaphor for escape.

“We had a bit of fun with this song in the studio… we tried a few different versions and then thought it would be fun to go a little Latin or Cuban,” says vocalist Benny Reed. “We got some congas in there and trumpet for the first time, as well as some Spanish vocals.”

The song follows recent single “So Excited” and arrives with a tour-shot video directed by Kale Neville, capturing life on the road with the same sun-soaked ease as the track itself.

Skegss recently wrapped a 20+ date North American headline tour, and are finishing up their UK and Europe leg, which included sold-out shows in London, Paris, and Glasgow. Their biggest-ever Australian tour kicks off next month, stretching coast to coast and featuring in the 2025 VIVID program.

Following the success of their last album Pacific Highway Music, Skegss continue to evolve—bringing bold new influences to their signature energy.
