London/Barcelona-based alt-pop artist LALA HAYDEN closes out her radiant new EP viva venus with the release of “beast,” a song that dives into vulnerability and emotional reckoning. Produced by Ben Christophers (Bat For Lashes, Françoise Hardy), “beast” is a glittering electro-pop release rooted in self-reflection and strength.
“I’m usually quite bratty in my delivery… but ‘beast’ felt like a moment where all my guards are down,” LALA says of the track. “It felt important to explore this vulnerability and allow that side of me to be seen.”
With nods to icons like Robyn, Self Esteem, and Jessie Ware, viva venus explores love, desire, and identity in the digital age. “My music is always a love letter to a female archetype,” LALA explains. “This time, it was Venus — the goddess of love, sex, fertility and victory.”
The EP’s other standout moments include “honeymoon suite,” co-written with Twin Atlantic’s Sam McTrusty and Ross McNae, which explores escapism and toxic infatuation. “baby you’re the best!” unpacks emotional neglect, while “rush of love” brings dancefloor catharsis, combining Kate Bush-inspired melodrama with a Madonna-level pulse.
Reflecting on modern love and the constant search for “the next best thing,” LALA has captured something deeply relatable in viva venus. The EP’s release, timed to the close of Venus in Retrograde, makes her message of emotional clarity all the more resonant.
