Ria Rua, the alt-rock artist redefining the Irish music scene, has unveiled her new single, “I Love That For You,” alongside a moody, visually stunning music video. Blending haunting vocals with industrial-inspired textures, the track delves into the struggle of self-expression in a society that often demands compromise.
Reflecting on the song’s deeply personal meaning, Ria shares: “As a teenager music consumed me, but everyone around me thought my best option was to settle down, work at a shop, and marry a local farmer. It took years of constant struggle, with myself and with family and friends, to come to terms with my truth—I can only be happy being myself and living my life in a way that feels true to me. This song is about that journey, from fear to freedom.”
Raised in rural Meath, Ria Rua grew up feeling like an outsider. Music became her outlet, fueling her evolution from a rebellious drummer to a bold alt-rock artist and producer. Today, her work inspires neurodivergent and queer youth to embrace their individuality.
Recent tracks like “You’ll Only Like Me When I’m Dead” and “I Want You” have been met with critical praise, landing on playlists such as New Music Friday and earning airplay across Ireland, the UK, Germany, and the US. Ria has also taken the stage at notable events like Dublin’s Vicar Street (supporting Soda Blonde) and the Musictown Festival, where she headlined in 2023.
With her debut album on the way, “I Love That For You” continues Ria Rua’s journey of self-discovery and musical innovation, solidifying her as a powerful voice in alt-rock.
